lost and found...

Wow, lost this blog site and then found it. My old computer crashed and died, and with that all my favorites that were book marked. Tried to get the computer fixed but that was hopeless so after pulling the hard drive did the only thing I could think of, took a hammer to it and bashed it up but good.
So here i am today, after finding the blog, posting.

Looking over my past comments it appears that I am staying true to form and managing a post every year or so. I'm amazed they or someone hasn't shut the blog down but no doubt I'm not the only one who starts a blog, posts regularly to it at the start, than forgets about it. So again, here goes, no promises for something every day, week or month but something when the mood strikes me (and i wonder why no one comments or is following me, HA).

In and Out Burgers

nSecond thing we wanted to do on thursday was to go to In and Out Burger. Now talk about simple. If you wanted a chicken burger, chicken nuggets or for that matter anything other than a burger, then you walked through the wrong door. Somehow, they have been able to keep it so simple. When we looked at the menu they offered a double double, a cheese burger or a hamburger, thats it. You can order fries with that, you can get a pop or your can get a chocolate, vanilla or strawberry shake. Thats it. Simple as can be. We walked to the counter and placed our order, i had the double double which is two patties, two cheese, i choose fried onions, and thats it. I also ordered the vanilla shake cause i like to be daring. My order number was 54, they were calling out 24 when i arrived. Talk about busy, but watching the workers behind the counter there was definetly a system in place and it didn't take long to get my order. Oh, did i mention the fries are fresh!!.
The milk shake was such that when you drew on the strak it sucked your cheeks in...thick!!. Burger was good, no frozen patties here. Wish i had my camera with me to get some pics but alas, no such luck. If you see and In and Out, don't drive by, stop, order a double double, fries and a shake and enjoy it like its suppose to be.

Tourist day...

We decided thursday was going to be our tourist day while in Indio. Four things we wanted to do/see...the Salton Lake, Slab City, downtown Palm Springs, and In and Out Hamburgers. We choose the evening to see Palm Springs due to the fact they had a street market then. This market covered a variety of goods and was the full length of the main street. Market opened at 6:00pm until 10:00pm. As far as street markets went, there really wasn't anything I would consider new or different but still worth venturing out to see, and it was busy. While driving around to find a place to park i noted a huge statue of Marilyn Munroe. Had to get a picture of this. My next post will cover off our trip to Salton Lake.

Return from Indio, Calif.

We returned from Indio last week, sadly missing the hot weather but knowing we will return again. We stayed at Worldmark Resort and it was awesome. Resort has two pools, hot tubs and a lazy river, be it small but very relaxing. Our trip there was to just relax by the pool, catch the sun rays and spend one day playing tourits. We choose Thursday to do this, being in the middle of our time there. Our accomadation was a two bedroom unit with full kitchen facilitiy, patio and gas BBQ, which we used every nite. The resort is well maintained, grounds well kept and relatively quite. The resort does not have a restraunt but rather a snack bar where you could get a sandwich. Having a full kitchen and grocery store not too far away we choose to eat in.

Pictures were taken from our patio. I'll tell you more about our Thursday "tourist day" on my next post.

Its alot of time to catch up on

Three years, alot of time to catch up on, especially when so much has happened, especially when we started out with two cats and a dog, and now we have three cats and no dog.
Its been decided to fire up the blog again, although at this time we will not be posting daily as we slowly get back into. We'll try to make the blog interesting for those who happen upon it, and we'll let you know what we're up to. We'll tell you a bit about what we have been up to since we lasted posted three years ago. And we'll tell you what are plans are for our upcoming adventures. We'll try to post some pictures of our adventures near and far. We'll try to make it interesting for those who have never visited us before and for those who have. Its a work in progress and hopefully as we move through we'll improve and capture your interest. So join us, Gary, Laurie, Harry, Bryon and Max as we restart.

Deep Fried

Calgary Stampede opened Friday and although I did'nt get to go then I went today. As always, you look forward to going to a fair and walking down the midway. Just after entering the gates you are dombbarded with the smell of deep fried. I had heard when at the stampede you have to try the deep fried oreo cookies. No kidding here, they actually have deep fried oreo cookies, and snickers bar. Not one to pass up trying something new i went for it. A little pricey at a $1.00 a cookie, you get five for five. They serve the deep fried oreo cookie in a small container, sprinkle icing sugar and drizzel chocolate sauce over them. Awesome, who cares about the calories when you can have something this good. Besides the deep fried oreo cookie there of course are the deep fried mini donuts, and the deep fried corn dogs. All go hand in hand when at any fairground. And did i mention you can also get deep fried jelly beans?

COCHRANE

Sunday was a great day to get out and take a short road trip. We decided to go to COCHRANE which is approximately 40 kms. west of CALGARY. The town of COCHRANE was named after Senator Matthew Henry COCHRANE, who established the COCHRANE Ranch in 1881. The CANADIAN Pacific Railway granted the town site in 1885. COCHRANE became a village in 1903. The area is mixed farming and of late has become a bedroom community to CALGARY. As evident to our drive around town there is alot of new housing being built. We drove to the main street of town and there is a mix of new and old buildings. When going to COCHRANE one has to make a stop at McKay Ice CREAM Parlor. This shop was established in 1948 and continues under the ownership of the original family members. We were not the only customers they had on Sunday. Entering the store there was a line up to get your cone. The had a staff of ten girls taking orders, making cones and operating the till. If you go to Mckays they only accept cash or credit cards. They have a great variety of cones and you can have a plain cone, waffle cone, chocolate dipped cone or just a plain old sundae. We ordered two chocolate ice cream cones and I have to admit, the ice cream was rich and creamy. Well worth the trip. I highly recommend a visit to COCHRANE if your in the area.
